For 400 years The Highwayman Inn has served the passing trade going north out of Cirencester on the old Ermin Way towards Gloucester.
- just off the A417
- perfect for touring the Cotswolds
- homemade pub food & Sunday lunch
- ultra-fast broadband
- massive car park ideal for car/bike meets
As long ago as the 16th century it was a highly respected coaching inn - a fact echoed by the marvellous carriage in the car park. Ironically, the pub now finds itself removed from the main road. Built to bypass Cirencester, it also bypasses The Highwayman.
Customers still make a beeline for this spot, however, as this is a pub recommended in both the Good Pub Guide and The Good Beer Guide.
In the words of the former: "considerable character in rambling 16th-c warren of low beams, stripped stone, alcoves, antique settles among more modern furnishings, log fires, rustic decorations, outside play area, good indoor provision for children". There is a large eating area at the rear where, the guide concludes, you will find "good, friendly staff".
The Good Beer Guide has always been impressed by the pub too and notes the good selection of food.
In fact, most visitors fall in love with the place and it's not difficult to see why. The Highwayman Inn is a pub that you just have to see.
