You have to admit that old Sally Pussey looks like a rather stern landlady. Her picture hanging proudly inside the pub as you enter, certainly indicates that she was a formidable local personality. Her real name was Sarah Purse and the name that has survived is a colloquial rendition of it.

The Purse family kept the pub from at least 1841 until 1885 and it was then known as The Wheatsheaf, forming part of the Bolingbroke estate which also included Lydiard House.

Arkell's bought the pub in 1906, but it wasn't until the 1970s that it was renamed in honour of its former keeper. Extended in 1974 and completely refurbished in 2004 and again in 2020, the pub today is managed by The Relish Group, a reputable and highly experienced local catering and hospitality business.

Serving “Tasty Portions at Sensible Prices” all dishes on the menu use the finest locally sourced ingredients across breakfast, lunch and dinner - Pub Classics, 12″ Pussey’s Pizzas and ever popular Sunday Carvery’s.

Open 7 days a week, Sally’s also offers cask marque quality beers, a dedicated kid’s menu and an array of dishes catering to dietary requirements.

Boasting (probably) the largest pub garden north of the M4, it also offers an outdoor covered terrace area overlooking farmer’s fields and a smaller picnic area. All in all it’s the perfect spot to meet family and friends.
