The Whitesmiths Arms is named after metalworkers from the historic Gloucester Docks, which stand right opposite the pub. The area is now home to the National Waterways Museum and other attractions and there could be few better ways to round off a day out than to drop in for a drink or a bite to eat at this special pub.

You don't have to take our word for it because it proudly takes its place in The Good Beer Guide, which praises the sensitive extension that has incorporated the medieval building next door. Arkell's have owned the pub since 1991 and carried out the expensive and delicate refurbishment very recently within strict architectural guidelines.

The Whitesmiths now has one big, round bar where food is served at lunchtimes and in the evenings. The emphasis here is on good value fare with a wide-ranging menu, so it is well worth a visit at lunchtime as well as in the evening. If it is warm, you can also take advantage of the small beer garden.

Whatever the weather, there is no doubt that The Whitesmiths is one of those pubs with its own individual atmosphere - and real character to spare.
